Position Summary
Big Bend Community College (BBCC) invites applications for the position of Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) Coordinator. This position is part of the Aviation Division and is responsible to provide instruction of the AMT General curriculum and provide support and assistance to students and faculty in the AMT program. This is a full-time, 11-month, grant-funded position. The annually contracted working dates are September 16-August 15. The salary for this position is pro-rated for the 11-month contract and will be $50,417.00. Insurance will continue to be provided during the non-scheduled time period.

This position reports to the Dean of Workforce Education with daily direction for labs from AMT Program Faculty.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC's main campus is located in the city of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. Essential Job Duties
Primary essential duties and responsibilities include, but will not be limited to the following:
  • Prepare material and equipment for use in the shop, classroom, or lab.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate equipment in accordance with standardized procedures or instructions from faculty.
  • Assist students in course assignments and projects.
  • Maintain and organize inventories of stockroom materials; order materials as needed.
  • Maintain quarterly chemical inventory, generate waste and usage lists for the Director of Campus Safety, Security & Emergency Management.
  • Prepare and teach assigned general aviation maintenance courses (to include all subjects listed in 14 CFR Part 147 appendix B).
  • Maintain student course matrials for two (2) years beyond the quarter of attendance.
  • Read and follow the BBCC AMT, FAA-approved curriculum manual and FAA regulations in 14 CFR Part 147.
  • Assist students with questions and projects related to the courses being taught.
  • Maintain frequent communication with students.
  • Teach and enforce safety rules in the labs.
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
  • Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required.
  • Submit assessment data in consultation with full-time faculty in the department.
  • Assist with development, selection, and/or recommend selection of instructional materials for courses being taught.
  • Post syllabi to the BBCC Portal for courses taught.
  • Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and setup of equipment. Resolve equipment problems through troubleshooting techniques.
  • Work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as may be required.


Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant rating.
  • A minimum of two years recent full-time work experience in aviation maintenance or document a minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience or a combination of education and teaching experience.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution and the community/technical college system.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe work practices.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and value for the contributions that a diverse workforce can make to the success of both the organization and students we serve.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience teaching in a Part 147 school and/or at a community college within the previous three years.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Experience using innovative teaching techniques.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
