Athletic Trainer Intern (One Year Program)

Compensation:
$1,200 per month stipend for 12 months. Compensation includes National Athletic Trainer's Association dues and focused CEU opportunities related to clinical and administrative growth. Athletic Corporation employees are at-will.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Staff Athletic Trainers, the Athletic Trainer Intern will be given an opportunity to learn about sports medicine administration of an intercollegiate team and other aspects related to athletic training. This program's goal is to prepare young professionals for a rewarding and successful career in collegiate sports medicine. Upon completion of the program, these young professionals will have enhanced and furthered their skills in communication, administrative expertise and clinical management of injuries. Our goal, under the direction of the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, is to prepare young athletic trainers to make a difference in Sports Medicine and to continue to represent the Fresno State Sports Medicine Program with the highest standards. Sport Assignments to be determined at a later date.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Identification, prevention, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
Clinical instruction and supervision of athletic training students in the ATP Program
Maintaining a safe environment and determining an athlete's readiness to safely compete and practice
Home and away coverage of assigned team
Communication with coaches, athletic department personnel, parents, team physicians and other medical specialist
Facilitation of medical referrals and physician visits
Other Administrative duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution by July 1, 2018
Possession of a National Athletic Trainer BOC Certification (NATA BOC) by July 1, 2018 (If successful candidate does not obtain the NATA BOC certificate by the required date, the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine may grant an accommodation or waiver until the next available test date.)
Graduate from an accredited ATP program in a variety of sports
CPR/AED Certified
Experience in athletic training in a variety of sports
Demonstrated ability to relate effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
Ability to:
o Learn and understand the National Collegiate Athletic Association rules and regulations
o Maintain a courteous and professional attitude in stressful situations
Ability and willingness to support the diversity and gender equity commitments of the department
A work history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluation

Preferred Qualification
Master's Degree
Post-Graduation experience working with a Division I institution
Division I Football or higher
