Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Humanities and Arts Department invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in religious studies. This is a one-year position that is renewable annually for up to three years.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • We welcome candidates with specialization in one or more under-represented religious traditions, including but not limited to: African-American, Asian religions, Islam, indigenous religions, and religions of Africa, South America, Central America, or Oceana. Candidates with a specialization in race, gender, or sexuality issues in religion are also welcome.

    Position Requirements

  • We seek an exceptional scholar who will contribute to our program in Philosophy and Religion and our strong undergraduate curricular commitment to providing a broad liberal education. Facility with philosophical thought and issues in social justice, and the ability to teach a course in the problem of evil or bioethics would be an asset. Teaching load is seven courses per year on a seven-week term system and involves a balanced mix of introductory-level courses, mid-level courses, and small seminar-style courses. Ph.D. in religious studies preferred, but qualified candidates with degrees in other relevant disciplines and ABD candidates who will complete their degree within 12 months of hiring date will also be considered.     We will be interviewing at the American Academy of Religion in November. Search will continue until position is filled.
