Job Description

The Assistant Dean for Academic & Student Services leads the operations of the Academic & Student Services department; thinks strategically about ways to enhance and improve the services provided and keeps current on trends and best practices at other law schools and relevant University offices. The Assistant Dean pays particular attention to the ways in which technology can be used to improve the level of student service and how processes can be streamlined for greater effectiveness and efficiency. The Assistant Dean will work closely with his/her counterparts in Admissions and Financial Aid and Career Services as part of the larger student facing group who similarly report to the Associate Dean for Strategic and Student Affairs to collaboratively provide exceptional client service. In addition, the Assistant Dean works directly with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs on all academic matters and serves on Law School and other committees.

Some examples of areas of departmental responsibility include: academic policies, procedures and calendar; course and exam schedules, course evaluations, and procedures; record retention and data analysis; dual degree programs; graduation requirements, degree audits and related academic advising; timely and effective communications to faculty, adjuncts and students across platforms; student withdrawals, leaves of absence, reinstatements, academic probation/supervision, visits away, transfers (in/out) and student retention initiatives; student disability and accommodations; student policies, procedures, disciplinary actions, professional development training and related communications; student life activities, programs and events; student organizations, orientation, student awards and graduation; student crisis and related advising.

The Assistant Dean will supervise the team's workflow and quality; manage budgets; ensure accuracy of student and enrollment data; and ensure the Law School's related compliance with appropriate government, regulatory bodies and accrediting agency requirements and policies including ABA. The Assistant Dean will also oversee the faculty support team.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $90,600 to $113,250; salary commensurate with relevant experience.



Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years higher education supervisory management experience required
  • Experience with PeopleSoft desired
  • Prefer advanced knowledge of G-Suite, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Office, ExamSoft, and OfCourse platforms
  • Advanced degree required, JD preferred
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion.
  • Strong knowledge of education and legal education best practices.
  • Proven ability to take initiative, develop and execute new approaches, and multi-task. Results driven. Highest quality standards.
  • Must be able to implement new technologies to improve efficiencies.
