General Description
College of the Sequoias Community College District is seeking an energetic full-time, tenured-track faculty member to join the Fine Arts Division as an Art Professor (3-D) beginning August 2019. Candidates should be dedicated to providing art students with the fundamentals of three-dimensional design and art in preparation for transfer and/or careers in the industry. Depending upon your qualifications, the starting base salary for this position is between $64,795.00 and $85,427.00/year. The amount can increase if overload or summer school are taught. Job Duties
The faculty member will provide classroom instruction in accordance with established course outlines while using comparative cross-cultural, multicultural, and multidisciplinary perspectives. The primary teaching assignment will be in Three-Dimensional Art. Teaching assignments may include: three-dimensional design, sculptural media with wood or stone, small metals, casting, fiber, hand-built ceramics, wheel-thrown ceramics, digital art in relation to two-dimensional or three-dimensional applications. It is also desirable that the candidate demonstrate an interest or has experience in teaching art appreciation face-to-face or online, gallery management and/or exhibition coordination. The department is especially interested in faculty who can lead the integration and development of increased technology and digital art in foundation classes. Initial assignments may include evening and weekend classes, and teaching at any of the District locations in Visalia, Hanford, and/or Tulare. Additional job duties will include classroom equipment and studio management, oversight on curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes in conjunction with fine arts faculty and continued participation in shared governance within the Fine Arts Division.

Qualifications
The candidate must meet the following criteria. The degree must be from an institution accredited by the Western Associations of Schools and Colleges or the equivalent:
  • Master's in Fine Arts, Art or Art History OR
  • Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in humanities OR
  • The Equivalent. AND
  • Demonstrated expertise in 3D Art

NOTE: "Master's in Fine Arts" as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other non-plastic arts.

Desirable Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum qualifications stated above, the Fine Arts Division and Art Department are looking for evidence in the following:
  • MA or MFA with emphasis in sculpture, wood, metal, fiber, and/or ceramics is preferred.
  • College level teaching in three-dimensional media.
  • Evidence of addressing and supporting the needs of underprepared student populations taking a wide range of college level courses.
  • Evidence of using a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention while successfully challenging a diverse student population.
  • Ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences.
  • Experience in and/or commitment to working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic, and disability backgrounds.
  • Evidence of knowledge and application of contemporary pedagogy, including the use of digital technology in studio practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and effective application of technology in the classroom.
  • Passion for teaching the foundations of three-dimensional media and design.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the relevance of three-dimensional media in contemporary and historical culture.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following areas: sculptural media with wood or stone, small metals, casting, fiber, hand-built ceramics, wheel-thrown ceramics, digital art in relation to two-dimensional or three-dimensional applications, art appreciation face-to-face or online, gallery management and exhibition coordination.
  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to advising students pursuing academic transfer and/or Art careers.
  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to advising student clubs and development of workshops outside of the classroom.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative in discipline and across disciplines.
Professional Commitment that includes, but not limited to:
  • Participation in the governance of the District by way of committee assignments is expected.
  • Assume leadership roles within the department and in the institution as a whole.
  • Regular attendance of office hours.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations and evidence of continued professional development in the field.
  • Ability and willingness to work with local community organizations to provide additional learning experiences for students that support program and District goals.
  • Work collegially and collaboratively within the fine arts division and the college community.
  • Assisting in the advancement of the institution's vitality and growth.
  • Participation in department, division, and institutional responsibilities and the willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of respect and equity on a diverse campus.
  • Interest in exploring innovative ways for meeting the educational needs of students.
  • Participating in community and/or high school outreach.
