Basic Function/Overview:
THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.

Hours: 21 hours per week, variable by semester, may require evenings and Sunday hours

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Supports the Writing Centers Director and Assistant Director. Works with Director, Assistant Director and other adjunct and classified staff to address student and faculty writing support needs. May serve as instructor of record for evening and weekend hours. Collaborates with administrators, head of departments, instructors, tutorial staff, and students to maintain and improve quality of service. Oversees and trains tutors and lab assistants. Keeps track of training progress of all new tutors. Reports to the director concerning tutors training progress. Tutors clients in the Center, as needed. Delivers workshops on rhetoric, grammar, and general academic research methods. Collaborates with faculty to address the academic writing needs of students in English and across the curriculum. Promotes Writing Center usage through publicity campaigns, orientations, outreach sessions, and campus presentations. Registers students for tutoring hours and troubleshoots registration recordkeeping. Fields student questions and assists at the front desk. Prepares computerized classrooms for instructor use. Helps director and assistant director with development of handouts, directed learning activities, online materials, and other relevant interventions. Assists in developing and tracking student learning outcomes. Compiles, records, and disseminates tutoring hour reports (student attendance) for instructors. Develops and delivers faculty workshops on issues of writing pedagogy. Fields instructor questions regarding the Centers policies and procedures. Assists director in record-keeping and office management duties. Maintains database of software. Troubleshoots minor computer problems. Collaborates with IT personnel.


Required Qualifications:
A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
1. A bachelors in any social science, humanities, mathematics, or natural science discipline or in liberal studies, as appropriate for the course; OR
2. A bachelors in business administration or related business majors (accounting, marketing, management, international business, and finance), computer science, or education (AND) at least two years of professional experience related to area of assignment management, international business, and finance), computer science, or education (AND) at least two years of professional experience related to area of assignment; OR
3. A full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in basic skills, literacy, reading, mathematics, K-12, or an Education Certificate; (OR)
4. Preliminary California Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the area appropriate for the course AND at least two years professional experience related to area of assignment; (OR)
5. The equivalent (must attach an Equivalency Determination Supplemental Form); OR
6. California Community College credential, Valid for Life (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.)
B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students; AND
C. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English

Employees may periodically be required to operate a vehicle that necessitates possession of a valid California drivers license. Such employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California drivers license.
