Academic Advising Specialist

Primary Function:
The primary responsibility of this position is to facilitate the smooth progress of undergraduate students in the Department of Special and Early Education through academic programs from admission to matriculation. This includes undergraduate programs leading to bachelors' degrees in special education (LBS, vision, special populations) and early childhood education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The qualified candidate provides developmental academic advising to prospective and current undergraduate candidates regarding teacher education programs. The Special and Early Education Department is a broad-based department with early childhood education and special education undergraduate licensure programs. The qualified candidate also participates in program development activities and is a valued member of program and curriculum committees for the department.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree with 4 years of academic advising related experience in higher education or related experience to the hiring unit
OR Masters degree with 3 years of professional experience in higher education, leadership, student personnel, academic advising

Education and Experience Preferred:
  • Possesses and applies advanced principles, concepts, practices, and methods
  • Availability to work some evenings, weekends, and off-campus assignments based on critical advising cycles

    The Civil Service examination for this classification is a Credentials Assessment, and is based on your application materials as submitted for this posting.
