Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities, Facilities Management comprises of two departments - Facilities Operations; and Facilities Planning and Construction. The primary mission is delivering required services, financial oversight, and providing a liaison with appropriate Federal, State, and local agencies on matters related to planning, constructing, operating and maintaining the physical campus environment.
Facilities Management strives to provide a safe, clean, accessible, and attractive environment which enhances the abilities of academic and administrative departments to provide a personalized education experience.
Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to directly manage and supervise the work schedules and work activities of the 2nd shift housekeeping team which consist of 12-14 FTE's as well as contracted staff when required. This position is responsible for custodial services for all Academic and Housing Facilities on campus which are roughly 2M square feet of space. This position is responsible for scheduling and providing event coverage. Position manages the day to day activities, tasks, projects, leave reporting, evaluations, professional development and disciplinary actions. Position makes hiring recommendations when positions are vacant through a standard interview and evaluation process. Maintains operating inventory by way of physical counts and creating supply lists for facilities. Responsible for maintaining various equipment such as extractors, carpet cleaners, stripper as well as vacuum equipment and keeping all equipment in the proper working order. The Building Environmental Services Manager will work along with the Facilities Superintendent, Assistant Director and Director of Operations on departmental budget, projects, tasks and a wide variety of items that directly impact Academic Facilities.
Job Description:
Provide institutional services supervisory support for The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the area of building environmental services housekeeping duties. Employees perform a variety of supervisory duties in the care and cleaning of classrooms, offices, and other academic related areas of facilities. Assign duties, inspect work and investigate complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment and take corrective actions. Conducts orientation training and in-service training to explain policies, protocols, work procedures and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Work is performed subject to close review and inspection by way of a quality assessment and quality assurance program with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a Manager. Records data regarding work assignments, personnel actions, leave reports and prepares periodic reports where data is used for strategic initiatives and planning for future. Ensure high level of customer satisfaction. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required along with strong computer skills and strong organizational skills. Ensure that the custodial staff complies with all safety and sanitation policies. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, operating heavy cleaning equipment, and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and may require strenuous physical exertion. Supervision of 12-14 FTE's on 2nd shift housekeepers assigned housekeeping duties in buildings across campus. Duties may include performing housekeeping and floor maintenance tasks.
Management Preference:
2 year Associate Degree or 2 years of college curriculum and working towards Bachelor's Degree. 5-7 years of directly related experience in a custodial supervision role and 7+ years directly experience in custodial role. Working knowledge of VCT and carpet floor care and associated chemicals and processes used. Experience with forklift and aerial working platform equipment. If no experience, then must be willing to become a certified operator within the UNCP organization. Excellent computer knowledge which includes MS Office. Excellent communication skills and customer service skills, exceptional organizational skills.
