Job Summary:
Cloud Systems Engineers are responsible for the campus core production, test, and development platforms and systems. They work collaboratively with other members of the Information Technology staff to offer or take advantage of expertise, investigate opportunities for further integration, improve existing services, or offer new services. The mission of the Cloud Systems Engineer is to identify, develop, design, implement, and support creative solutions to the computer communication and information technology needs of the University community through the integration of multiple hardware and software applications residing in desktop, networked, cloud, and central computing environments.

- Cloud System Engineers must be on call during non-office hours and will on occasion need to work outside of normal business hours to perform upgrades and installations, or respond to critical issues or system outages
What You Will Do:
- Manages installation, maintenance, upgrades, patching, testing, monitoring, backup. and security access of Windows and/or Linux based systems and applications hosted both on-premise and in cloud environments. Manage environments including standalone servers, virtual hypervisors, VMs, cloud platforms, and associated automations and integrations. Coordinates with other IT teams for troubleshooting and problem resolution
- Design and implement new service and integration projects, both independently and collaboratively. Participates in planning activities and contributes to innovation for the department and the university. Collaborates on special projects with peers and colleagues, and participates in cross-functional teams, search committees, and other departmental groups as required
- Serves as a technical subject-matter expert on university applications, systems, public cloud platforms, and storage solutions, applying technical knowledge to support implementations, system security, and best practices
- Provide tier 2 and 3 support for incidents and service requests supporting the university staff, faculty, and students. Appropriately utilize the university's project and ticketing systems. Creates and updates technical documentation and knowledge base articles as systems are implemented, upgraded or changed
- Perform security monitoring and security operations support. Monitor and support systems performance and utilization. Troubleshoot systems issues as needed
- Keeps current with technology, advising leadership on what emerging technologies are available that would integrate well with current systems, or replace and/or upgrade existing solutions. Participates in meetings, forums, vendor demonstrations and classes, to maintain proficiency in current technologies

Required:
- Bachelor's degree and 6 years of work experience OR High School degree and 10 years of experience
- Knowledge Areas and Skills: High level of competency in cloud technologies, as well as at least one other primary area of Systems Engineering responsibility (i.e. Windows administration, Linux administration, storage administration, and database administration); Experience in server administration, including setup and configuration of the system, appropriately securing and monitoring the system, patching and updating operating systems and other appropriate software, and performing system backups; Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS; Experience with backup, recovery, and business continuity planning and implementation; Experience with integrating and interfacing between multiple systems; Experience with authentication systems, e.g. CAS, AD/LDAP, Shibboleth; Competency in Linux and/or Windows scripting languages; Knowledge of and familiarity with Microsoft networking and authentication; Knowledge of and familiarity with IP networking; Knowledge of and familiarity with network-attached storage; Knowledge of the design and deployment of file and print services; Enthusiasm for learning new software tools, operating systems, networking applications, etc; A strong interest in creative problem solving, the application of emerging technological standards, and providing functional, high-quality services; The ability to learn independently and to apply and share that new knowledge when necessary; Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred, but not required:
- Master's Degree
- Professional Certification or License: AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, SysOps Administrator, or Solutions Architect; Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, Azure Administrator Associate, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert; Microsoft Windows Certified Administrator
- Knowledge Areas and Skills: Experience in a higher education environment; Experience with Active Directory administration; Experience with VMware, vSphere, ESX/ESXi, or equivalent hypervisor; Experience with Microsoft SQL Server; Advanced programming skills; Experience with AWS compute technologies, including IAM, Lambda, S3, Cloudformation, SQS, SNS, etc; Experience with configuration management and deployment tools, e.g. Git, Ansible, CFEngine, Terraform, etc; Experience with agile development approaches including continuous integration, unit testing, and iterative development; Experience with container technologies such as Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes; Experience with authentication technologies including SAML, OAUTH, LDAP, Kerberos, RADIUS, etc.

Salary Range:
96,800.00-121,000.00
The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
