The Associate Director for Communications is a key member of a new high visibility initiative known as Student Assessed Integrated Learning (SAIL) at Northeastern University. The Associate Director for Communications, reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, will lead strategic communications, training, and marketing to support the adoption of this wide-scale innovation impacting students, faculty, and staff. This includes leveraging a variety of strategies to encourage engagement from key stakeholders, in addition to other methods for meeting program goals and objectives.

The Associate Director will design, develop, implement and assess interventions to promote the culture change and stakeholder engagement necessary for sustained adoption of the Student Assess Integrated Learning (SAIL) initiative. Leveraging a variety of creative marketing, communications, and training strategies to promote the programs, and encourage engagement/adoption from multiple stakeholders is crucial to achieve the overall program goals and objectives.

In collaboration with a core team, the Associate Director for Communications will:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic communication plan including tactics, timing, budget and materials for various audiences across and beyond the university designed to promote adoption of the Student Assessed Integrated Learning (SAIL) initiative;

  • Effectively assist in leading organizational change across the University in connection with the SAIL initiative, including identification of attitudes, obstacles and opportunities that may impact stakeholder readiness;

  • Coordinate marketing, communication and outreach branding efforts for the SAIL program designed to bring about an integrated change management effort;

  • Implement strategic communications that create excitement and that promote, and heighten awareness and understanding of SAIL initiatives and programs;

  • Plan, develop and deliver training materials, promotions, documentation, correspondence, and print and digital media, including a strategic social media campaign and other digital engagement tactics;

  • Ensure alignment of all communications and training messaging for an integrated change management effort;

  • Become familiar with University branding standards and develop guidelines and best practices for the style, streamlining and creation of content; and

  • Gather and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of these approaches (via Google Analytics, CRMs, and other tools), and report out recommendations for improving engagement.

    Qualifications
    The ideal candidate for the Associate Director for Communications will be experienced with a wide range of marketing and communications strategies and tools, and have knowledge and demonstrated experience designing and implementing large-scale communication strategies to achieve organizational change. The Associate Director will have the ability to understand the big picture and overall vision, while managing the day-to-day implementation of the established strategies.

    Additional qualifications required:

  • MS/MA/MBA in the area of Communications, Marketing or Public Relations or equivalent, with emphasis on organizational behavior;

  • Five or more years of experience in a communications role (preferably in higher education);

  • Exceptional communication skills with proven ability to effectively articulate complex messages to a variety of audiences;

  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, cross-functional team environment, where flexibility, creativity, and resourcefulness are required for success;

  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships, and to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal;

  • Solid project management skills with the ability to coordinate resources, establish schedules, track deliverables;

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of a variety of communications methods, including social media, web presence, mobile apps, and software platforms. Familiarity with analytics, usability testing, marketing automation systems, and CRM systems is a plus; and

  • Ability to proactively seek external industry knowledge and continued learning
