Position Summary
Reporting to the University Registrar, the Senior Assistant Director, NCAA and Veteran Certification ensures Fordham University's compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Veterans Administration (VA) eligibility requirements for veteran students and student-athletes.
This role analyzes academic records, including transcripts and degree audits, to verify eligibility for NCAA participation and VA benefits. This position collaborates closely with the Athletics Department and the Office of Military and Veterans Services to maintain accurate records and facilitate a compliant environment.
This position may require evening and weekend work.
Essential Functions
- Certifies NCAA eligibility by evaluating academic records of new, continuing, transfer, and international student-athletes against NCAA, conference (e.g., Atlantic 10), and University policies each semester.
- Assesses transfer credits and course substitutions to ensure student athlete compliance with NCAA transfer rules.
- Prepares required NCAA reports.
- Oversees certification of satisfactory academic progress and degree progression for all student athletes.
- Collaborates with the Athletic Department to develop and refine certification guidelines, tools, processes, and procedures.
- Designs and implements new procedures and training based on audit findings to resolve coding/documentation issues and enhance compliance.
- Processes VA certifications at the start of each semester by analyzing student transcripts to determine eligibility for tuition, housing, and other VA benefits.
- Monitors academic progress towards degrees for veteran/veteran beneficiary students and student-athletes, and reports any status changes to the NCAA and/or VA.
- Conducts periodic audits of student records by meeting with external and internal auditors and reviewing documentation to ensure ongoing compliance with NCAA and VA regulations.

- Maintains confidentiality of student records and complies with all Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
- Participates in the preparation of required VA reports.
- Identifies and reports potential NCAA/VA violations related to academic performance.
- Supports the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) certification process.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in academic record analysis, including degree audits and transcript evaluation.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders (veteran/military affiliated students and student athletes, administrators, faculty, and compliance staff).
- Familiarity with student information systems (Banner, DegreeWorks, Slate, etc.) and data management tools.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA regulations.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs).
Minimum Starting Salary: $75,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $80,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
