Job Summary
Provides professional nursing leadership and administrative direction for the departments of 8A3 Oncology Acute Care and The Surgical Short Stay Unit. Participates as a member of leadership teams to provide and continually improve health care services and to support the mission and goals of Michigan Nursing Services, and the Health System.

This position reports directly to the Clinical Nursing Director.

To assist the department Clinical Nursing Director in planning, coordinating, leading, and managing clinical and administrative operations.To assist the department Clinical Nursing Director in providing leadership in the practice of nursing, emphasizing safety, quality, customer service, education and research.To assist the department Clinical Nursing Director in coordinating between management and patient care activities consistent with the University of Michigan Hospital and Health System mission and goal statements.

To assist in managing budgets, payroll, commodities, staffing/scheduling, hiring and staff reviews. The Clinical Nursing Supervisor will participate in new program development and implementation; plan, organize and evaluate patient care standards guidelines and educational activities; and monitor and implement the continuous quality improvement programs..

Responsibilities*
In collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Director, will provide leadership and management of the following nursing units: 8A3-Oncology Acute Care Unit and the Surgical Short Stay UnitResponsibilities include:Recruit, hire, manage, supervise and coordinate all staff for 8A and SSSUPlan, assign and review the work of nursing and support staff.Counsel, develop and evaluate the performance of all nursing staff.Provide leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of nursing practice and for interdisciplinary clinical guidelines, using best evidence.In collaboration with other members of the leadership teams, identify and plan for staffing consistent with needs of the patient population and budgetary requirements and appropriate to the scopes of a variety of roles.Participate in and coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of interdisciplinary patient care activities and programs.Plan, coordinate and evaluate LEAN initiatives and other quality improvement activities.Evaluate and manage clinical equipment and recommend necessary expendituresFacilitate education of nursing leadership students.Assure compliance with affirmative action, regulatory, legal, patient care and safety programs.Have working knowledge of oncology and surgical patient care and needs

Required Qualifications*
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.

Required Educational Requirements:Applicant must meet one of the following:* Bachelors of Science in Nursing * Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing.

Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Registered NurseMinimum two (2) years (within the last five years) RN experience in Oncology and Surgery

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master of Science Nursing
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience (ie: committee chairs, program leads)
  • Oncology experience, including heme/onc
  • Chemotherapy experience
  • OCN
  • Knowledge of the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers policies and practices

This position may be filled using an FLSA exempt or non-exempt designation.
